With this course, we’ll introduce you to one of the basic instruments for Spanish dance and flamenco: Castanets.

In our classes, we worked on:

• Identifying which castanet is recommended for the right and left hands, as both have different sounds and the touch is different for both hands.
• Correct placement of the castanet in the hand. We learn how to attach the string and the correct positioning of the arm, wrist, and fingers.
• Basic touches, such as RIA PI TA, POSTICEO (clashing castanets), and basic exercises that will advance in complexity and speed to build finger strength and perform the touches with greater precision.
• We perform the basic touches of the four sevillanas (each one is different, although they use the same touches), memorizing each one and performing them with verses of different speeds.
• Basic arm exercises with different touches to coordinate movements.

We’re starting a choreography that we’ll perform on stage in our end-of-year show. Argentine Tango “La Comparsita”
