Description of each course at the 2026 Biennial

Flamenco – Beginner level

We’ll introduce you to Flamenco. This week you’ll learn the basic techniques of flamenco dance: different rhythms, footwork patterns, body and arm positioning, hand movements, variations in turns and hip movements… Each class will include a technical section and a section where we’ll develop a short tango choreography. By the end of this course, you’ll have the basic knowledge to continue enjoying this art form.

Sevillanas – Beginner level

In this course, you will learn the choreography of the four traditional Sevillanas, a regional dance from Seville performed in pairs and very popular at the city’s festivals. Each of the four verses has similar steps, but they are distinct. We will work on foot and arm coordination, the characteristic hand and arm movements, and the rhythm of the Sevillanas.

Flamenco dress – Beginner level

These classes will introduce you to the art of handling the bata de cola, a traditional flamenco dress, a complement to styles such as Alegrías, Soleá, and Seguiriya. You will learn the basic techniques for handling it and practice different movement variations, as well as the proper way to pick it up and release it.

You must bring your own bata de cola, and some prior knowledge of flamenco is recommended; you don’t need to start from scratch.

Flamenco dress – Technique – Intermediate level

This course is designed for students who have previous experience with the bata de cola (flamenco dress with a train) and wish to refine and practice their technique.

The course will include variations to the rhythm of alegrías or seguiriya, culminating in a short final choreography.
