Flamenco Alegrías Course, with recorded lessons
Flamenco Alegrías Course. You’ll learn a beginner-level choreography. It was originally created for a very special group of young students, like Aitana García, who appears in our promotional video.
Although the choreography was created for young students in our annual flamenco classes, it’s suitable for both adults and children. It’s a very lively and cheerful choreography, in which you’ll develop basic knowledge of shawl handling and skills in marking and joyful finishing.
It’s a song by Aurora Vargas called “No sé qué tiene mi Cai” from the album “Spanish Flamenco II.” It’s almost four minutes long.
Structure of this choreography
In the structure of the choreography, you can see an entrance, three lyrics, and a small falseta that we use as a brush. We use the shawl as a complement, and there’s a lesson dedicated to it in the course. I’ll give you some basic guidelines for using it.
Choreographed by Alegrías, a festive palo (style of dance) originating from Cádiz, whose verses often refer to that city and the sea. It has a fresh, cheerful, and elegant character, also dynamic and at medium speed. Its time signature is mixed, with twelve beats.
Characteristics of the Manila shawl for flamenco dancing
It’s important to purchase a shawl in the dimensions I’ve indicated for ease of handling and optimal movement results. We recommend these shawls:
- Manila shawl for flamenco dancing in ivory. Shop: Roberto Garrudo (€380, October 2024)
- Manila shawl for flamenco dancing in black. Shop: Juan Foronda (€296, October 2024)
The most appropriate measurement for an average dancer of 1.65m is 1.35m of frame + 0.12m of lattice + 0.40m of fringe. otal square should measure approximately 2.40m on each side.
The weight should be approximately 650 grams; any weight less than 500 grams could be too light and difficult to control. Any weight greater than 800 grams could be too heavy and require considerable strength from the dancer.
What are the requirements?
- Knowing mixed rhythm will make your learning easier, although it’s not essential.
- It’s a good idea to have enough space, as this choreography requires a lot of movement around the stage, and the movement of the shawl requires it.
- Flamenco dance shoes and a shawl are essential. A mirror and a dance skirt are advisable. You can purchase any flamenco product by following this link.
