Due to its complexity and the high level of coordination required, we continued working on this choreography throughout the entire course.<\/p>\n<p>The choreography was performed on stage with our musicians <strong>Sara Castellano and Gori Mazo<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>For the second term, we chose a <strong>Ca\u00f1a<\/strong>, using the <strong>mant\u00f3n de Manila<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>This accessory made the work particularly challenging because of the large size of the group.<\/p>\n<p>The choreography was performed on stage with guitarist <strong>Gori Mazo<\/strong> and singer <strong>Maite Olivares<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<h3>2024-2025 Course<\/h3>\n<p>With this group, we began by working on a <strong>Sole\u00e1<\/strong>, a serious and majestic dance in which we placed a strong emphasis on its temple and melancholic character.<\/p>\n<p>It was one of my favourite choreographies of the year because of its strength and intensity.<\/p>\n<p>The dance begins with an entrance and letra por Sole\u00e1, followed by a beautiful falseta and an escobilla por Sole\u00e1 that changes into a powerful <strong>Sole\u00e1 por Buler\u00edas<\/strong> letra, giving the choreography a significant boost of energy.<\/p>\n<p>This is followed by a short escobilla por Sole\u00e1 por Buler\u00edas and finishes with <strong>Buler\u00edas al golpe<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>A creation worthy of major theatres.<\/p>\n<p>In the second term, we began working on <strong>Alegr\u00edas<\/strong>, incorporating the <strong>bata de cola<\/strong>, an element that was new to all the students.<\/p>\n<p>It was difficult to work on because there were many of us for the space available. It was a real challenge for both me and the students, but the result was spectacular.<\/p>\n<p>In the Alegr\u00edas, they begin with <strong>Buler\u00edas<\/strong>, contrary to the usual structure, and then perform two letras with a falseta in between, followed by silence, castellana and escobilla.<\/p>\n<p>The choreography finishes with a free ending and concludes por Alegr\u00edas.<\/p>\n<h3>2023-2024 Course<\/h3>\n<p>At this level, we began the course working on a <strong>Serrana<\/strong> choreography, with a comp\u00e1s similar to Seguiriya but lighter.<\/p>\n<p>We worked on challenging movements and footwork, with a structure that begins with a falseta, Liviana letra, Serrana letra, falseta, escobilla and a lighter Serrana macho.<\/p>\n<p>For the second term, we began working on the <strong>handling and technique of the mant\u00f3n<\/strong> in a <strong>Caracoles<\/strong> choreography.<\/p>\n<p>We began with a falseta, letra and falseta while working with the mant\u00f3n. We then released it to incorporate the <strong>abanico-peric\u00f3n<\/strong>, which we used for our escobilla and final letra.<\/p>\n<p>Some students finished with the peric\u00f3n and others with the mant\u00f3n.<\/p>\n<h3>2022-2023 Course<\/h3>\n<p>At this level, the technique is already quite complex, allowing us to work in a more professional way.<\/p>\n<p>We began the first term with what became the <strong>choreography of the year: a Taranto<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>This is a very challenging flamenco palo because of its character, aplomo and mastery of technique and comp\u00e1s, as well as the complexity of the coplas.<\/p>\n<p>All of this was enhanced by beautiful falsetas composed for us by our guitarist <strong>Gori Mazo<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>The result was a choreography of almost <strong>13 minutes<\/strong>, worthy of any tablao or stage.<\/p>\n<p>For the second term, we began working on <strong>Fandangos with live music<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>We decided along the way to enjoy its coplas rather than overload the choreography with escobilla, resulting in a choreography full of coplas and highly embellished falsetas.<\/p>\n<p>By the third term, our Fandango choreography was almost finished, so we decided to add <strong>stage movement<\/strong>, repeatedly changing the students&#8217; positions and creating a choreography with a great deal of movement across the stage.<\/p>\n<p>The result was spectacular.<\/p>\n<h3>2021-2022 Course<\/h3>\n<p>During the first term, this group worked on <strong>Farruca<\/strong>, a dance characterised by straight lines and requiring a high level of technique.<\/p>\n<p>This dance, traditionally more associated with men than women, requires energetic and powerful movements, as well as many turns.<\/p>\n<p>These turns, together with <strong>correct body positioning<\/strong>, are the main focus of this class.<\/p>\n<p>We have an online course recorded on this flamenco palo:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/estudioflamenco.com\/en\/flamenco-online\/\">5.2 Choreography \u2013 Farruca \u201cLive Music\u201d<\/a><\/p>\n<p>During the second term, the choreography was set to beautiful <strong>Colombianas<\/strong> music.<\/p>\n<p>We also have an online flamenco course about Colombianas:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/estudioflamenco.com\/en\/flamenco-online\/\">6.9 Choreography \u2013 Colombianas \u201cLive Music\u201d<\/a><\/p>\n<p>As with Levels 3 and 4, both choreographies are danced with our musicians, and the dances are rehearsed with the students once a month.<\/p>\n<h3>2020-2021 Course<\/h3>\n<p>In these <strong>Flamenco Zoom<\/strong> recordings, we worked on footwork technique, placing particular emphasis on <strong>endurance and speed<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>During the first term and part of the second, we developed variations of remates and footwork that would eventually become a <strong>Malague\u00f1a<\/strong> choreography, whose structure with live singing and guitar is:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>First guitar falseta embellished with mant\u00f3n movements.<\/li>\n<li>Free Malague\u00f1a letra, embellished with poses and slow, free movements.<\/li>\n<li>Second falseta in comp\u00e1s.<\/li>\n<li>Highly complex escobilla.<\/li>\n<li>First letra, in this case purely musical, without singing.<\/li>\n<li>Second abandolao cante letra and ending.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>For the second and third terms, we continued reinforcing the Malague\u00f1a choreography and began working on <strong>Tangos<\/strong> in the same way as the Malague\u00f1as were developed.<\/p>\n<p>We worked on remates, variations and footwork that would eventually become a <strong>Tangos de Granada<\/strong> choreography.<\/p>\n<p>Its structure is:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Opening falseta.<\/li>\n<li>Footwork variation with guitar tap\u00e1.<\/li>\n<li>First and second Tangos letras.<\/li>\n<li>Falseta.<\/li>\n<li>Escobilla, build-up and closing.<\/li>\n<li>Third and fourth letras.<\/li>\n<li>Build-up and ending por Tangos.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>What are the professional-level flamenco classes like?<\/h2>\n<p>Throughout the course, we maintain progressive technical training adapted to the students&#8217; level and focused on perfecting the execution of highly complex movements and choreographies.<\/p>\n<p>The usual structure of the classes includes:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Warm-up and stretching.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Technical footwork training<\/strong>, with exercises focused on speed, endurance and greater complexity.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Arm and hand exercises<\/strong> and body coordination.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Work on turns, remates and escobillas.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Work on comp\u00e1s<\/strong> and the different structures of the palos.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Work on the character and expression<\/strong> specific to each dance.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Work with accessories<\/strong>, such as mant\u00f3n de Manila, abanico-peric\u00f3n, bast\u00f3n or bata de cola.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Working with live music<\/strong> when it forms part of the choreography.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Reviewing and perfecting choreographies<\/strong> to achieve increasingly precise execution.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Tips for following Flamenco Zoom classes from home<\/h2>\n<p>To practise comfortably, we recommend using a <strong>suitable floor for flamenco practice<\/strong>.
