We choreographed the song <strong>\u201cTratante de Vara Larga\u201d<\/strong> by singer <strong>Remedios Amaya<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>In the second term, we began working on <strong>Taranto<\/strong>, a serious palo with a strong emotional intensity and complex remates and escobillas. We used a Taranto piece from the album <strong>\u201cGrupo de Mar\u00eda Moreno\u201d<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<h3>2024-2025 Course<\/h3>\n<p>We began the course by working on a <strong>Fandango<\/strong> choreography by performer <strong>Joselito Acedo<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>It was a very musical piece, with little singing and an exquisite melody that won over <strong>Esther V\u00e9lez<\/strong>, its choreographer, as soon as she heard it.<\/p>\n<p>The choreography also incorporated the <strong>mant\u00f3n de Manila<\/strong>, an accessory that is difficult to handle and which we had to work on intensively, but the result was spectacular in our Christmas 2024 show.<\/p>\n<p>In the second term, we completely changed to the serious and technical character required by <strong>Farruca<\/strong>, using a highly musical and instrumental piece by <strong>Manolo Carrasco<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>It was a radical change, as both the character and the technique are very different. The teacher <strong>Esther V\u00e9lez<\/strong> danced this choreography by personal choice at the end-of-course show in June 2025, and the result was wonderful.<\/p>\n<h3>2023-2024 Course<\/h3>\n<p>Our Level 4 students began the course working on a <strong>Seguiriya<\/strong> choreography. This is a powerful and profound palo with a comp\u00e1s they were not familiar with and which they were working on for the first time.<\/p>\n<p>We placed a strong emphasis on <strong>comp\u00e1s<\/strong>, as well as on the sad character and weight required by this flamenco palo.<\/p>\n<p>We worked with a piece called <strong>\u201cSeguiriya\u201d by Jos\u00e9 Galv\u00e1n<\/strong>, and the result was showcased at our Christmas gala.<\/p>\n<p>In the second term, while continuing to reinforce the previous choreography, we completely changed to the carefree and paseo character required by <strong>Alegr\u00edas de C\u00e1diz<\/strong>, using a piece with live music by our musicians <strong>Gori Mazo and Sara Castellano<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>It was a very radical change, and our students adapted very well to the different characters of the two dances.<\/p>\n<h3>2022-2023 Course<\/h3>\n<p>At this level, we begin working with <strong>live music<\/strong>. Our musicians attend class approximately twice a month to help students become accustomed to this type of work, which is very different from working with recorded music.<\/p>\n<p>We began by working on the <strong>twelve-count comp\u00e1s<\/strong> with a <strong>Bambera<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>The structure begins with a falseta in which we added complicated turns and a closing at a speed that was quite challenging for them. We continued with a first letra, second falseta, escobilla, guitar tapao and ending.<\/p>\n<p>We reached this point for our Christmas performance, in which the teacher had to dance with them to achieve a good result, as they were not yet ready to perform it on their own.<\/p>\n<p>In the second term, we completed the Bambera by adding a second letra that had been left unfinished, and we began working on a <strong>Ronde\u00f1a<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>The complexity of the Ronde\u00f1a does not lie in its steps, but in the <strong>integration of the singing into the choreography<\/strong>. This is quite challenging because it is a palo in which the singing is relatively free, and since the choreography is fixed, the singing has to adapt to the choreography, leaving aside the natural, spontaneous breaths of the moment.<\/p>\n<p>This also means that the students work a little on <strong>improvisation<\/strong> so that they can adapt to changes in the singing of the coplas.<\/p>\n<p>During the second and third terms, we worked simultaneously on the Bambera and Ronde\u00f1a, which we performed on stage at our end-of-course show.<\/p>\n<h3>2021-2022 Course<\/h3>\n<p>We began the course working on a <strong>Tientos choreography with live music<\/strong>, including singing and guitar.<\/p>\n<p>The musicians usually come to class once a month to rehearse what is being developed and prepare the dances for performances.<\/p>\n<p>This palo is serious and majestic while also requiring mastery of comp\u00e1s, as it contains both very slow sections and <strong>very fast and complex footwork<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Every day we reinforce technique, both footwork and movement and body coordination.<\/p>\n<p>In the second term, we created a new <strong>Jaleos choreography<\/strong>, recorded with our school musicians.<\/p>\n<h3>2020-2021 Course<\/h3>\n<p>For students at this level, the work is carried out with <strong>live music<\/strong>. We work on choreographies with singing and guitar and with more traditional structures of the different palos.<\/p>\n<p>During the first term of these <strong>Flamenco Zoom<\/strong> recordings, we made the first choreography considerably more challenging: a <strong>Guajira with abanico-peric\u00f3n<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>This choreography was also recorded as an online flamenco course, specifically course <strong>5.10 Choreography \u2013 Guajiras \u201cM\u00fasica Estudio Flamenco\u201d<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>The music was composed by our school and recorded in a recording studio.<\/p>\n<p>The structure of this choreography is:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Opening falseta.<\/li>\n<li>Singer&#8217;s temple and closing.<\/li>\n<li>First Guajira letra.<\/li>\n<li>Second falseta and closing.<\/li>\n<li>Second letra.<\/li>\n<li>Escobilla, build-up and closing.<\/li>\n<li>Initially free ending that finishes with a Buler\u00edas remate and culminates in a very lively feel that ends abruptly.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>For the second and third terms, we began working on <strong>mant\u00f3n technique<\/strong> to incorporate it into a <strong>Ca\u00f1a<\/strong> choreography, whose structure is as follows:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Entrance with a short falseta.<\/li>\n<li>Slow, almost free Ayes.<\/li>\n<li>Closing.<\/li>\n<li>First letra.<\/li>\n<li>Ayes in comp\u00e1s and closing.<\/li>\n<li>Second letra.<\/li>\n<li>Falseta ending by releasing the mant\u00f3n.<\/li>\n<li>Escobilla and closing.<\/li>\n<li>Tapao.<\/li>\n<li>Typical powerful Ca\u00f1a letra: <strong>\u201cTo el mundo le pide a Dios\u201d<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>What are the Level 4 flamenco classes like?<\/h2>\n<p>Throughout the course, we maintain progressive technical training, combining it with choreographies that require greater mastery of comp\u00e1s, coordination and the ability to adapt to different characters and speeds.<\/p>\n<p>The usual structure of the classes includes:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Warm-up and stretching.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Footwork exercises<\/strong>, progressively working on complexity and speed.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Arm and hand exercises.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Work on marcajes, paseos and sequences<\/strong> of greater difficulty.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Turns, remates and escobillas<\/strong> applied to the different choreographies.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Coordination work<\/strong> between feet, arms, body and comp\u00e1s.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Work on the character<\/strong> specific to each flamenco palo.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Choreography work<\/strong> to apply and perfect everything learned.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Tips for following Flamenco Zoom classes from home<\/h2>\n<p>To practise comfortably, we recommend using a <strong>suitable floor for flamenco practice<\/strong>. Here you can find some <a href=\"https:\/\/www.elflamencovive.com\/spanish\/instrumentos\/complementos\/suelos-portatiles\">examples of specialist dance floors<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>It is also very useful to have a <strong>mirror<\/strong> and a <strong>stand for attaching a tablet to the mirror<\/strong>, so that you can see the teacher properly during the class.
