During the first term, we created a choreography that we presented at our Christmas gala using <strong>\u201cTanguillos de C\u00e1diz\u201d by Jos\u00e9 Galv\u00e1n<\/strong>, a didactic instrumental piece of lively and danceable flamenco from his album <strong>\u201cBaile Flamenco Vol.1 (2001\/2008)\u201d<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>During the second term, while continuing to work on and reinforce the Tanguillos de C\u00e1diz, we worked on <strong>Sole\u00e1 por Buler\u00edas<\/strong>, which we brought to the stage through a choreography entitled <strong>\u201cA mi hermana\u201d<\/strong>, by the singer <strong>Miguel Poveda<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<h3>2024-2025 Course<\/h3>\n<p>We began the course with <strong>Colombianas<\/strong>. For this choreography, we spent the entire first term working on the technique of the <strong>abanico-peric\u00f3n<\/strong>, combining it with step coordination in preparation for our Christmas gala.<\/p>\n<p>The students greatly enjoyed performing on stage and the teachers were very proud of the result.<\/p>\n<p>From January onwards, we continued working on and reinforcing the Colombianas and began a new choreography por <strong>Alegr\u00edas<\/strong>, placing particular emphasis on the lively and strolling character of this palo.<\/p>\n<p>The piece we worked on was <strong>\u201cEl Ni\u00f1o del Mentidero\u201d by David Palomar<\/strong>. The group greatly enjoyed this choreography and its result can be seen in the end-of-year show in June.<\/p>\n<p>This course was recorded as an <strong>online course<\/strong> during the summer of 2025.<\/p>\n<h3>2023-2024 Course<\/h3>\n<p>We began the course with <strong>Tangos<\/strong>, using a choreography by <strong>Miguel Poveda<\/strong> entitled <strong>\u201cTangos de Pastora\u201d<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>We worked on footwork, marcajes, remates and pata\u00edtas throughout the first term before presenting the choreography at our Christmas gala. Both the students and teachers greatly enjoyed performing on stage.<\/p>\n<p>From January onwards, we continued working on and reinforcing this choreography and began a new one por <strong>Buler\u00edas<\/strong>, placing particular emphasis on the festive character of this palo.<\/p>\n<p>The piece we worked on was <strong>\u201cT\u00fa tienes un amor para m\u00ed\u201d by Los de la Morena<\/strong>. This piece was also included in our <strong>Online Courses<\/strong>, with its promotional video filmed at the Seville April Fair.<\/p>\n<h3>2022-2023 Course<\/h3>\n<p>During the first term, this group worked on a choreography with an added level of complexity: an accessory, the <strong>abanico-peric\u00f3n<\/strong>. This is a large fan that requires a great deal of practice and technique to handle it correctly and effectively on stage.<\/p>\n<p>The choreography was a <strong>Guajira<\/strong>, a flamenco palo with a very sensual and flirtatious character that also needs to be developed, as it is not easy to perform. It also features fairly abrupt changes of speed that require considerable agility and coordination.<\/p>\n<p>The work carried out during this first term was very good, resulting in a visually striking choreography for our Christmas performance.<\/p>\n<p>For the second term, we began working on a choreography por <strong>Tientos<\/strong>, a palo completely different from what we had previously worked on. It has a four-count comp\u00e1s, with a very slow tempo and very fast sections, and a solemn and serious character in the slower sections and a livelier, more joyful character in the faster sections.<\/p>\n<p>We significantly increased the complexity of the steps for this second choreography and continued working on and perfecting the previous Guajira during the second and third terms.<\/p>\n<p>The final result was spectacular on the stage at our end-of-year show. A great job by the students.<\/p>\n<h3>2021-2022 Course<\/h3>\n<p>We began the course by working on a <strong>choreography por Tientos with live music<\/strong>, featuring cante and guitar.<\/p>\n<p>The musicians usually come to class once a month to rehearse, reinforce what has been developed and prepare the dances for performances.<\/p>\n<p>This palo is serious and majestic and, at the same time, requires a good command of the comp\u00e1s, as it includes both very slow sections and sections with <strong>very fast and complex footwork<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Every day, we reinforce technique, both footwork and body movement and coordination.<\/p>\n<p>During the second term, we created a new <strong>choreography por Jaleos<\/strong>, recorded with our school musicians.<\/p>\n<h3>2020-2021 Course<\/h3>\n<p>For students at this level, the work is done with <strong>live music<\/strong>. We work on choreographies with cante and guitar and with more traditional structures of the different palos.<\/p>\n<p>During the first term of these <strong>Flamenco Zoom<\/strong> recordings, we made the first choreography considerably more challenging: a <strong>Guajira with abanico-peric\u00f3n<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>This choreography was also recorded as an online flamenco course, specifically <strong>5.10 Choreography \u2013 Guajiras \u00abM\u00fasica Estudio Flamenco\u00bb<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>The music was composed by our school and recorded in a recording studio.<\/p>\n<p>The structure of this choreography is:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Opening falseta.<\/li>\n<li>Cantaor&#8217;s temple and cierre.<\/li>\n<li>First Guajira letra.<\/li>\n<li>Second falseta and cierre.<\/li>\n<li>Second letra.<\/li>\n<li>Escobilla, subida and cierre.<\/li>\n<li>Ending, initially free, finishing with a remate por Buler\u00edas and culminating in a very lively section that ends abruptly.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>For the second and third terms, we began working on <strong>mant\u00f3n technique<\/strong> to incorporate it into a choreography por <strong>Ca\u00f1a<\/strong> with the following structure:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Entrance with a short falseta.<\/li>\n<li>Slow, almost free ayes.<\/li>\n<li>Cierre.<\/li>\n<li>First letra.<\/li>\n<li>Ayes in comp\u00e1s and cierre.<\/li>\n<li>Second letra.<\/li>\n<li>Falseta ending by releasing the mant\u00f3n.<\/li>\n<li>Escobilla and cierre.<\/li>\n<li>Tapao.<\/li>\n<li>Typical Ca\u00f1a letra: <strong>\u201cTo el mundo le pide a Dios\u201d<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>What are the intermediate-level flamenco classes like?<\/h2>\n<p>Throughout the course, we progressively develop technique, increasing the difficulty of the exercises and sequences as the group progresses.<\/p>\n<p>The usual structure of the classes includes:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Warm-up and stretching.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Footwork exercises<\/strong>, progressively increasing in complexity and speed.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Arm and hand exercises<\/strong>, with different variations.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Variations of marcajes<\/strong> and more challenging sequences.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Coordination work<\/strong> between feet, arms, body and comp\u00e1s.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Continuous review<\/strong> of the material learned.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Choreography work<\/strong> to apply everything learned during the classes.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Tips for following Flamenco Zoom classes from home<\/h2>\n<p>To practise comfortably, we recommend using a <strong>suitable floor for flamenco practice<\/strong>. Here you can find some <a href=\"https:\/\/www.elflamencovive.com\/spanish\/instrumentos\/complementos\/suelos-portatiles\">examples of specialist dance floors<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>It is also very useful to have a <strong>mirror<\/strong> and a <strong>holder for attaching your tablet to the mirror<\/strong>, so that you can see the teacher clearly during the class.
